Days 4 and 5, Games 1 & 2 of the trip

Days 4 and 5, Games 1 & 2 of the trip:

With the next two days of the trip came our first 2 matches.

It was curry for breakfast on the 4th day (or something much more simple if one preferred!), and then both teams departed the hotel to their respective games. The 1st XI travelled to the Moors Stadium to face Amana International School, and the 2nd XI were at the Sri Lanka Air Force Stadium against Colts Academy.

Some of our boys tuk-tuking into breakfast

Despite the Sri Lanka air force and armed guard being present and rather intimidating for most of the game, the 2nd XI won comfortably against a slightly mismatched opposition. The ground was right in the heart of Colombo, with one of the landmarks of Colombo, the Lotus Tower, in the background.

The 1st XI did not fare so well, losing to their bearded counterparts in their 40 over game.

The evening brought time to relax in the restaurant with some very spicy curries, and time by the pool and beach. However, tiredness soon set in again, and it wasn’t long before the boys were in bed, ready to sleep for the next day.

Day 5 and there were more curry options for breakfast! Some braved the spice, but many erred on the side of caution, consuming cereal, toast, beans and bacon in vast quantities. Then it was off to our fixtures: today, the 1st XI played Colts Cricket Academy at the Sri Lanka Air Force Stadium, whilst the 2nd XI ventured to the Moratuwa De Soysa Stadium to take on St. Thomas’ College.

Both teams were successful in their endeavours, coming home victorious after a hard day’s work in the heat.

George Hopwood (8 overs, 25 runs, 6 wickets). Josh Carberry, Tom Preston, Oliver Meadows and Oliver Kelly.

Mrs Byrne excited about handing out “Smak” to the boys on the bus. Don’t worry, it’s just a milkshake!

Despite a delayed return to the hotel because of a procession (see bearded ladies below!), the boys still had the opportunity to take a dip in the pool on the last night of our stay at Pegasus Reef Hotel. Tomorrow, we make the trip to Udawalawe to see wildlife on safari and elephants at a sanctuary, as well as another game of cricket. We will be staying at the Grand Udawalawe Hotel. From there it’s on to Galle and Hikkaduwa!

The service will also allow Switch users take advantage of any game's online features, as well as the Nintendo Switch Online smartphone app, which is used for voice chat. Both of those have been free since the Switch launched in March 2017, but Nintendo said from the start that there would eventually be paid elements of the online service.

The ability to back up saves in the cloud is the most valuable, and arguably the most exciting feature of the new service. Even now, Switch users have no way to protect their save data, which is stored on the hardware itself and can only be transferred — not backed up — to new hardware.

Nintendo has waved away repeated questions on the subject, even as real-life cases of hardware failure, and lost data, have sprung up and prompted users to take drastic measures. All of which is to say, this is an important step in the Switch's growth.
