Two Days in Transit
Having managed to successfully meet
on time for our flight from Manchester Airport, a long journey to Colombo via
Doha awaited us. Steve Badham from Living With The Lions ably assisted with our
check-in and it wasn’t long before the journey was underway. Despite the
flights being rather long, the in-flight service with Qatar Airways was excellent,
and one of our students even found some time to finish his half term Classics
homework in-between watching movies and playing games.

On arriving at Colombo airport, we
were met by our tour guides, Vijay
and Rohana, who were keen
to get us on our way to the hotel, whilst teaching us some Sri Lankan
traditions at the same time. We were welcomed with our very own banner, and
pink wreaths (as modelled by Nick Sweeney), and it wasn’t long before the
boys made the tour bus their own.

We
soon arrived at the Pegasus Reef Hotel, Wattala, where Mr Sutcliffe – the tour
leader – briefed the boys on behaviour and expectations before they dispersed
into their rooms to relax before our evening meal at the hotel.
The
sun set beautifully prior to this, and our Upper 6th tourers managed
to find some time to relax on the beach, whilst eagerly awaiting offers from
universities on super speed (no sarcasm) Wi-Fi: such academics!
Tomorrow,
the boys will be having a relaxed morning at the hotel, followed by a transfer
to Thurstan Cricket College Cricket Ground for a net practice session with
ex-Sri Lankan national player Malinda Warnapura. The cricket tour begins!
I apologise for the lack of photographs on this blog: the Wi-Fi is letting me down! Please check Twitter for some photos @MTBSCricket
